World champion trotter Giant Diablo will make her 2008 debut Friday at the Meadowlands in the opening round of the Su Mac Lad Series, and John Campbell will get the first-time drive after David Miller opted off to direct Swan Image. Coming off a 1:54.3 win in a qualifier April 10 at the Meadowlands with Miller driving, the Swedish-owned Giant Diablo has not started in a purse race since last October when the 8-year-old daughter of Supergill trotted to a world-record 1:50.1 victory while capturing the $108,500 Allerage Farms at The Red Mile for driver Johan Untersteiner. The Roger Walmann trainee enters 2008 with $1.8 million in career earnings. Giant Diablo will leave from post five in Friday’s $50,000 single 11-horse Su Mac Lad division. Also in the race is Brunton Tilly, a 10-year-old half-brother to world champion Victory Tilly, Yonkers Trot winner Green Day and recent Classic Series leg winner Enough Talk. CR Dream Catcher, who won last year’s Su Mac Lad final, drew post three. $50,000 Su Mac Lad Series—first leg Post Horse (driver) 1. Green Day (Tim Tetrick)
