Cam's Fool returning home

Return Home
December 20, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

The experiment is over and Cams Fool is heading home. His Australian trainer-driver David Aiken scratched the 5 year old from the Adelaide Inter Dominion this week and confirmed his return to the U.S. next month.

"He's booked on a flight to the States on January 14," he said. "It's a shame to lose the horse because I was looking forward to getting him back as a more seasoned horse after a spell."

Aiken, who trains at Avenel in the Goulburn Valley, said recent bushfires and heavy smoke had played havoc with Cams Fool's allergies.

"I just about had him right a week or two back, then we had a heat wave and all the smoke and it really got to him," he said.

Cams Fool, part-owned by former top North American trainer Brett Pelling, was sent here almost a year ago to race in ustralia's biggest events. After building a record of 26 starts for five wins, eight placings and $454,859 in priz emoney in North America, he failed to show his best Down Under. From 11 starts he netted just one win, three placings and $23,800.

Aiken said the lure of booming purse money at Yonkers was another reason for Cams Fool’s return to the U.S. (Adam Hamilton for harnessracing.com)
