Canyon Wind breezes

Canyon Wind posted a 7-1 upset victory in Saturday night's $47,500 Open Pace at the Meadowlands. Scoring in 1:49.1, Canyon Wind held on by a nose over the late-rallying Maltese Artist, with Life Source third after leaving from the outside post.

Canyon Wind was driven by David Miller for trainer Steve Elliott. It was a lifetime-best effort for the 5-year-old son of Cambest who won for the third time in 10 starts this year. He is owned by Schoor Racing Stable and Val D'Or Farms.

"I thought there would be a lot of leavers in there," said Miller of Canyon Wind. "I thought I'd get a close trip. But he felt so good tonight I moved him, and he just exploded. He just raced really well."
