Three-year-old colt trotter Capetown Hall won a qualifier at the Meadowlands Thursday morning in 1:56.2, one-fifth of a second off his career best set last year while capturing the $227,100 Matron final over the five-eighths mile track at Dover Downs. It was the second straight qualifying win for the son of Garland Lobell who is a half brother to the stakes-winning trotters Cash Hall and Cartier Hall.

Trainer Jimmy Takter, who had sat behind Capetown Hall in his first two qualifying attempts, turned the lines over to David Miller Thursday morning. Miller sat second with Capetown Hall behind the tempo-setting The Federalist before catching that one in the final strides to win by a head.

Capetown Hall, a $52,000 yearling purchase by Christina Takter, John Fielding, Dr. J. Glen Brown and Margaret Oweida from breeder Walnut Hall Ltd., won seven times in 14 starts last year at two while earning $283,861. He wrapped up his rookie campaign with a third-place finish behind Chocolatier in the $507,600 Breeders Crown final at the Meadowlands.
