Captain Cambest was the best in the first of two $19,000 opening-round divisions of the Fox Sportsnet New York Series Thursday night at the Meadowlands, with Free De Vie finding the winner’s circle in the second split. John Campbell was in the bike behind Captain Cambest as the 4-year-old son of Cambest led at every call to cross the wire first in 1:51.1. Foiled Again finished second for Andy Miller while odds-on choice Splendid Kisser and driver Yannick Gingras had to settle for third. Karen Williams trains the winner for SBK Stables, M and M Harness Racing and VIP Internet Stable. Unlike the first division, there were no problems for the bettor’s choice in the second split as 4-5 favorite Free De Vie, moved to the lead down the backstretch by driver Brian Sears, scored a 1:51.2 victory. Campbell and Cinderella Guy took second with Major Suit and Miller third. Jeremy Howard trains the winning 4-year-old son of Real Desire for owners Sandra Sokol and Bernie Horabik. The win was his seventh in 10 starts this year.
