Show Me Big Slick won the first of two $26,289 Ohio Breeders Championships for 3-year-old colt and gelding pacers Thursday afternoon at the Delaware, Ohio fairgrounds, while Roxies Big Guy captured the second split in wire-to-wire fashion.
Show Me Big Slick was driven by Tim Tetrick to the 1:52.4 victory, defeating Raps Big Boy (Dan Noble) and C'Mon Lew W (Ray Paver). The gelded son of Towner's Big Guy won for the third time in a row, for the sixth time this year, and for the 11th time over his career, with the clocking being a career best.
Trained by Kurt Sugg, Show Me Big Slick is owned by Dean Davis of Wooster, Ohio.
Roxies Big Guy, driven by Brian Sears, fought off the first-over challenge from Thunder Cruise and Ron Pierce from the half on, going on to a 1:52.1 victory. The overland trip took its toll on Thunder Cruise as he was overtaken down the stretch by Valentowner and David Miller for runner-up honors.
The win was the fourth in a row for Roxies Big Guy, a gelded son of Towner's Big Guy trained by Wes Hershberger for owner Ohio Minerals of Sugarcreek, Ohio. The time was a career best among his 18 career victories.
