Racing for new owners and on Lasic for the first time, Bunny Ruffles sprung a 7-1 upset in a career-best 1:53 in the second of two $23,553 Ohio Breeders Championships for 3-year-old filly pacers Thursday afternoon at the Delaware, Ohio fairgrounds. Driven by Dave Palone, Bunny Ruffles upsest the 1-5 favorite Osborne's Gypsy, who had to settle for second-place honors after four straight victories.
Bunny Ruffles, a daughter of Precious Bunny, was purchased Sept. 14 by Sylvia Burke and Weaver Bruscemi LLC, and is now being trained by the nation's leading dash-winning trainer, Mickey Burke. The win was her second of the year in 11 starts, lowering her previous mark by more than three seconds.
The first OBC split went to JL's Red Star, who scored in 1:56 for driver David Miller. Evening Jet took second with Susie's Kiss third.
Trained by Hugh Beatty and owned by John Sugar and Frank Cautela, JL's Red Star is a daughter of Towner's Big Guy. The win, her seventh of the year in 16 starts, was a career best.
