Signaling a new beginning, representatives of The Meadows and its parent company, Cannery Casino Resorts, broke ground today on The Meadows Racetrack & Casino, a $450 million project that will provide a fully integrated gaming and racing experience. Local and state officials participated in the ceremonial groundbreaking, which begins a rapid process of bringing slots revenue–and the new jobs and opportunities it will create–to local residents.

“Today signals the beginning of a new era for The Meadows,” said Bill Paulos, a principal of Cannery Casino Resorts (CCR). “We will build nothing less than a first-class fully-integrated racing and gaming complex in Western Pennsylvania that will become a destination point for gaming enthusiasts. We look forward to introducing Western Pennsylvania’s first ‘racino’ to the region and contributing to the creation of new jobs and opportunities for area residents.”

The Meadows Racetrack & Casino will open a temporary slots facility this spring, making it the first gaming facility to open in Western Pennsylvania. A permanent 250,000-square-foot, two-story casino, which would hold 3,000 slot machines, will open within two years after the temporary racino is completed.

Once completed, it will create an expected400 family-sustaining jobs and contribute millions to the local economy. Nearly all employees will be local residents, who stand to gain the most.

“Being the first gaming facility to open in Western Pennsylvania will give us the opportunity to get a head start in developing a strong identity with gaming enthusiasts in the region,” Paulos said. “We think once people get to know us, they’ll look forward to coming back again and again. CCR takes pride in the quality entertainment we provide our visitors.”

The permanent gaming facility will include a number of new and exciting amenities:

 A bar, lounge and stage in the center of the casino floor
 Two-story theater with tiered seating and balcony
 Premier steak house
 Multi-tiered 700-seat buffet style restaurant with views of the gaming floor and racetrack
 Sports bar connected to a simulcast center
 Climate-controlled grandstand seating
 Sky lit viewing gallery overlooking the racing paddock
 Convention area
 VIP area overlooking the lounge with a select view of the racetrack
