Castens now at NJSS

Christopher C. Castens, who has had extensive experience in racing with racetracks and horsemen's associations, has been appointed to the position of executive director of the New Jersey Sire Stakes Program in the State Department of Agriculture.



Castens, who is a graduate of Rutgers University and Seton Hall University School of Law, has most recently served as executive director of Harness Horsemen International, responsible for preparation of the group's budget and financial statements, web site, meetings, newsletter and insurance programs for members.



He started his racing career as staff counsel and executive assistant to Stan Bergstein at Harness Tracks of America, a position he held nearly five years. Castens later joined International Thoroughbred Breeders, while the corporation owned the now defunct Garden State Park racetrack in Cherry Hill, and for a period of time, Freehold Raceway and Philadelphia Park. For nearly 14 years he was corporate secretary and counsel at ITB and served as the track's representative to the New Jersey Horse Race Industry Workers Compensation Board.
