Caviar served again at Woodbine as Cinderella story continues

November 04, 2008 Send To A Friend  | Print View

One of the biggest "Cinderella" stories this season at Woodbine has been that of trotter Enjoy The Caviar and that story continued on Monday night as he rolled to his ninth consecutive career victory in 1:55.1. The 5-year-old gelded son of SJ's Caviar is in his first season at the races for trainer Joanne Dawson who co-owns along with Holly Carr.

Previous to this year, he had made one qualifying attempt in January of 2007 in which he made a break in stride and finished ninth. Dawson qualified the trotter twice before making his pari-mutuel debut and he also made a break in the first of those, finishing fifth by 28 lengths.

The trainer added trotting hobbles next time out and the gelding responded with a clean line, finishing second by a nose in 2:03.4 at Georgian Downs. He followed that up by winning his career debut in 1:59.2 at the Innisfil oval on July 26 and has not tasted defeat since.

Enjoy The Caviar entered Monday's race off a 1:54 lifetime-best performance on Oct. 20 at Woodbine and was moving up to face high end non-winners for the first time in the $25,000 contest.

As has been his style all along, the trotter left sharply for driver Mike Saftic and then never let any of his rivals get close the rest of the way. The win, not only kept his perfect record in tact, but it boosted his seasonal bankroll up to $80,000(C). (WEG)
