Caviart Sydney retired

November 29, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

The 3-year-old pacing filly Caviart Sydney has been retired from racing and is on her way to the breeding barn, according to her owners, Buck and Judy Chaffee of Caviart Farms. She will be bred to Rocknroll Hanover in 2007.

“Retiring Sydney was a hard decision because she just kept racing stronger and stronger all season,” explained Buck Chaffee. “She raced well in her last start, the Lady Maud final at Yonkers, but we know how hard it can be for four-year-old fillies to compete with talented older mares. In the end, we felt that as much as we would like to race Sydney another year, we also look forward to racing her foals.”

Just two weeks ago Caviart Sydney scored the highlight of her career when she defeated My Little Dragon in an exciting Matron Stake final. The two fillies raced nose to nose down the stretch on a rainy, windy evening at Dover Downs.

Caviart Sydney, a daughter of Dragon Again and Caviart Sierra (by Western Hanover), retires with earnings of $444,787. In 2006 she won the Matron Final and was second in the elimination. She also won an elimination of the American National, but finished out of the money in the final after two fillies locked wheels in front of her. She was second in the Adioo Volo, Shady Daisy and a PASS, and finished third in the Lady Maud, Courageous Lady, Glen Garnsey (Tattersalls), a division of the Bluegrass and the Fan Hanover elimination. At two, Caviart Sydney won a division of the Bluegrass, along with the elimination and final of the Virginia Stake. She was second in the Standardbred and third in the Breeders Crown final to My Little Dragon and Darlins Delight.

Caviart Sydney was regularly trained by Arledge, and for the final weeks of her career by Richard Norman.
