The 2007 Two-Year-Old Filly Trotter of the Year Snow White made her first sophomore appearance Thursday morning at the Meadowlands, winning a qualifier in 1:56.3 as she returned after being sidelined due to tie-back surgery performed in March. The surgery was needed after trainer Kevin Lare heard Snow White roaring during a training session at Gaitway Farm in John Campbell was in the sulky behind Snow White in Thursday’s qualifier as she moved from third after the opening :29.4 quarter to the lead, setting fractions of :59.4 and 1:29.1 before drawing clear from her competition with a final quarter of :27.2 to win by six lengths. Snow White won 11 of 13 races last year, including a world record 1:52.4 win at The Red Mile, and earned $1,252,646, the most ever by a freshman trotter, regardless of sex. Her 2007 earnings are also the most ever by a rookie filly, with Miss Easy holding the mark for pacers with $1,128,956 earned in 1990.
"It has been a long winter and I was very anxious to see her get back to the Meadowlands...which is where she started out. We are ecstatic in how she qualified today," co-owner Curtis Larrimore told harnessracing.com shortly after the qualifier. "John (Campbell) said she was well within herself...and she felt great and looks great.
"She'll qualify again next Thursday and then the Historic (June 27 at Meadowlands), and then the Del Miller," added Larrimore. "All of the connections of Snow White want to give a special thanks to Dr. Michael Ross and we really appreciate the great job; he made it possible for us, along with everybody (at New Bolton)."
