The 3-5 favorite Chancey Lady proved much the best in the OSS Super Final for 2-year-old filly pacers at Woodbine Saturday night, holding off all challengers and pacing to a three-length victory over All Accounted For (John Campbell) and world champion Voelz Hanover (Rick Zeron).
Chancey Lady, a daughter of Camluck out of the Artsplace mare Art of Design, is owned by Niele Jiwan of British Columbia. The filly no has six wins in eight starts, and a new lifetime mark of 1:52.
Mark MacDonald drove the winning filly for trainer Casie Coleman. “I really thought (she was the filly to beat tonight). She’s a real nice filly and Casie’s done a great job with her. She’s lightly raced and very fresh, and that makes a big difference this time of year.”
Deuce Seelster took the 2-year-old colt pace with an easy 2 3/4-length score in 1:52. Deuce Seelster shot to the front of the field and made the rest look easy. This is the third consecutive win, and the ninth in 12 starts, for the son of Western Maverick.
Darren McCall trains the colt in Canada. “With Lennon Blue Chip scratched, we didn’t really have the battle we could have had," said McCall of the race. "I couldn’t see them getting by (Deuce Seelster) by the third quarter. He has a wicked turn of speed.
“He’s dealt with a few issues through the year – nothing major, but enough to keep him off his peak. Right now he’s growing, so it’s been a balancing act lately. He’s put on three inches and about 80 pounds in the last six weeks. He’s very talented, and has that presence about him that good horses have.” (WEG)
