Marty’s Charm, a confirmed closer throughout his career, switched styles effectively on Monday at The Meadows and captured the $25,000 Preferred Pace for the second consecutive week. Last week, Marty’s Charm used an impressive first-over bid to score. On Monday, Randy Tharps sent the 4-year-old gelded son of Aces N’ Sevens-Bets Mae to the lead. Marty’s Charm endured a parked-out first quarter in :27.2 and dug in to defeat Abraxas by a neck in 1:53.1. Vesuvio Grande was a closing third. Unraced until this year, Marty’s Charm has won 11 of 22 starts and $105,160 for trainer Paul Corey and owners Martha and Gerald Baluck. (The Meadows)
