Check Me Out trots 1:51.3; Hambo possible

July 15, 2012 | Print View

Will she or won't she? Even after Check Me Out set a 1:51.3 world record in winning the Del Miller Memorial on Saturday night at the Meadowlands, trainer-owner Ray Schnittker said he doesn't yet know if he will enter the filly against the colts or keep her in the filly division, the Oaks.

"Right now I'm probably leaning towards the Hambo, but I've got to do a little more thinking," said Schnittker.

Check Me Out, a Donato Hanover filly owned by Schnittker and Charles Ianazzo, won the Miller by 2 1/2 lengths over Win Missy B. Brian Sears sent Win Missy B to the lead but as soon as the first quarter flashed :27.3 Tim Tetrick had Check Me Out on the move and she quickly took command. Win Missy B was on the iron in the pocket for part of the race down the backstretch, but in the last turn Check Me Out pulled away and then she coasted home in :27.3 to win. Personal Style was third.

The 1:51.3 time erased Highscore Kemp's 1:51.4 standard set at Du Quoin, Ill.

"She's just a killer," said Schnittker of his filly, "and I'd like to see her sit a pocket at 1:24.1."
