Chocolatier coasts in AmNat

Chocolatier coasted to an open-lengths 1:54 win in the $190,000 American National for 3-year-old colt and gelding trotters at Balmoral Park Saturday night. It was the first start for the defending divisional champion since his Hambletonian runner-up finish three weeks ago.

Driver D.R. Ackerman floated the son of Credit Winner out of the gate and then charged to the front shortly past the opening :28.4 quarter. From there he trotted to fractions of :57.2 and 1:25.4 before closing out the victory with a final panel of :28.1. Double Player was about four lengths back in second with driver Andy Miller, with Muscles To Spare and George Brennan third.

With the win Chocolatier surpassed the $1 million mark in career earnings. He is owned by Doug Ackerman Stable, Southwind Farm and Lindy Farms of Conn.
