Chocolatier easy winner

November 26, 2005 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Chocolatier rebuffed the first-over challenge by RC Royalty at the three quarters and cruised to a 1:56.1 victory for D.R. Ackerman in the $507,600 Breeders Crown 2-year-old colt and gelding trot. Mr. Pine Chip and Dave Palone rallied in deep stretch to be second while Capetown Hall and Brian Sears were third.

Starting from post one, Chocolatier did not get a fast start and was fourth behine RC Royalty, Ebony Strike and Capetown Hall at the :28.3 opening quarter. But, as usual, D.R. Ackerman tipped the son of Credit winner to the outside and brushed to the front and enjoyed an unchallenged trip to the half in :57.3. RC Royalty and Dan Daley took a shot at Chocolatier nearing the 1:27.3 third quarter, but to no avail. Chocolatier pulled away for his eighth victory in 10 starts this year.

The colt is owned by the Doug Ackerman Stable and is trained by the 78-year-old Hall of Famer who also serves as the colt?s caretaker. The victory was also his first in the Breeders Crown.

When asked how it felt being in the Breeders Crown winner?s circle for the first time Ackerman quipped, ?Well, $250,000 richer.?
