Choose Six at Big M

Return Home
April 11, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

The Choose Six, a new twist on a popular wager, officially launches on Friday, April 21, at the Meadowlands.

The Choose Six is a variation of a traditional Pick 6 that requires the bettor to choose the winner of six races on the racing program but with two unique differences: the bettor, not the track, chooses the six races, which can be any six on the card, and the bettor has the option of buying back into the pool as long as there are at least six races remaining on the card.

The minimum wager for the bet is $1.

A soft launch of the new wager will begin on April 19.

With the advent of the Choose Six, the Meadowlands will discontinue the traditional Pick 6 wager.

The Choose Six pool continues to grow while there are least six races remaining on the card. It offers a "same day carryover" concept in that any money on "dead" tickets remains in the pool that will be paid out to any winners.

All Choose Six wagers on a card are combined into a single pool. The net pool is divided evenly among all winning tickets at the conclusion of the last race.

All tickets with six winners pay the same amount, regardless of which races comprise each ticket.

To kick off the new wager, there will be a $25,000 minimum pool guarantee for the first two nights, April 21 and 22, when six of six are hit. Additionally, there will be drawings on Saturday, April 22, for a trip to the 2006 Breeders' Cup World Championship at Churchill Downs and for tickets to local sporting events.

Entries for the drawings are in the form of losing Choose Six tickets, bearing the entrants name, address and phone number.

Big M Club members will receive double points, through the end of May, on Choose Six wagers, and the Choose Six Girls will be on hand to answer questions on the new bet on Saturday night, April 22.

To start, the bet will be offered exclusively on-track at the

Meadowlands, its sister track, Monmouth Park, and Freehold Raceway.

"We are excited to launch the Choose Six at the world's greatest harness track," said Joe Asher, managing director of Cantor Index. "We applaud the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority for embracing new types of wagers and for giving their fans the ability to choose the races they want to bet."

When there are no tickets with six of six winners, 25 percent of the pool will be paid out on tickets with the most winners and 75 percent of the pool will be carried over. If there is a late scratch after wagering has started, the scratched entrant will be replaced by the post time favorite on the affected tickets.

The Choose Six is the first proprietary bet to be used in harness racing. It was developed by Cantor Index LLC, a subsidiary of the global financial services firm Cantor Fitzgerald LP, offered in partnership with Scientific Games Racing LLC.
