Driver Chris Christoforou held the hot hands in Thursday night's second leg of the Blizzard Pacing Series for three and four-year-old mares as he steered home both divisional winners, piloting Keystone Wendy and Onehotvett to victories. Keystone Wendy was able to blast to command from post 10 in the first $20,000 split for Christoforou and was never headed in the mile en route to a 1:55.2 victory. The daughter of Western Hanover-Keystone Waikiki was sent off at odds of 33-1 and turned back Designated Leader with Katpandu rounding out the top three. It was just the third career win for the Mike Pennington trainee who kicked back $68.10 for the win. The lion's share of the purse boosted her career bankroll to just over $64,000 for the PBR Systems Group of Freelton and Linda Bedard of Cambridge, Ontario. In the second division, Christoforou used a different approach with Onehotvett as the four-year-old daughter of Goliath Bayama-Vals Vett turned in a strong first-over victory in 1:55.1. She was narrowly able to hold off a strong late rally from Astreos Delight with favourite Artists Dynasty coming up a bit flat to finish third. The clocking shaved more than five full seconds off the previous lifetime best for Onehotvett who is owned by Gerry and Matthew Sparling and Rick Fife of Ontario and conditioned by Randy Fife. She returned $11.40 to her backers. The $43,000 Blizzard Series Final will go postward next Thursday night at Woodbine.
