City Delight, a two-year-old Bettor’s Delight filly, out of the Western Hanover mare Western City won in 1:59.2, for owners W J Donovan and Joe Sbrocco, in the $23,648 division of the New York Sire Stakes here at Buffalo Raceway Friday night (July 23).

City Delight ($2.70) the prohibitive favorite in the race, driven by reinsman Ray Fisher Jr., shot right to the lead from post five, and never looked back, setting all the fractions in the race, :29, :59.1, and 1:31. A :28.2 last quarter-mile put City Delight 2-1/4 lengths ahead of second place finisher One Night (Jack Flanigen) at the finish line. Sittinthemorninsun (Jamie Dunlap) came in third.

“She’s (City Delight) the most manageable two-year-old filly I’ve ever driven”, said Fisher. “She’s a real push button horse”.

It was the second lifetime win for the $90,000 Harrisburg purchase that is trained by Paul Kelley.

Another heavily bet odds-on winner was Eagle Kelly (American Ideal-Demotta Bing), who won in 1:58.4, for trainer Mark Ford. Owned by Frank Dettore Horse Racing LLC, Eagle Kelly ($2.30) driven by Brandon Simpson re-took the lead past the quarter-pole from second place finisher Winspirational (Sam Schillaci) and cruised the rest of the way winning by 1-3/4 lengths at the wire. You’re To Funny (Gareth Dowse) came in the show spot.

“This is a really nice little filly”, said Simpson. “She did it so easy and I want to thank the connections for the drive”.

It was the second win of the year for Eagle Kelly, who also won at Goshen in 1:57.3.

The other Sire Stakes winner’s on the night were, Winbak Corazon ($10.80), a Village Jove offspring who won a division in 1:59.1, with Phil Fluet in the bike, My Girl’s A Star ($2.10) with Jim Morrill, Jr. up in 1:58.4, Temptation Queen ($5.00) in 1:59, for owners Marvin and Sandra Kaufman, also with Morrill in the sulky, and Crazy Luv Bug (American Ideal-Luv’s For Ever) who won for the first time in 1:59.1 for trainer George Teague, with Kevin Cummings driving.
