CJ’s Super Secret and Mark O’Mara polished off a lucrative series Thursday, winning the $20,000 final of the Ralph & Dorothy Rose at Hoosier Park Racing and Casino. The victory for the trotting mare was her first career win after only three starts this season.
Starting from post three in the 10-horse lineup, O’Mara got away well in mid-pack with CJ’s Super Secret. Ripken’s Red and Mike Peterson were the leaders until the half, setting fractions of :29.1 and :58.2 before being overtaken for the top spot. Nasty Secret and Don Eash surged to the lead and picked up the tempo, passing by the three-quarter mile marker in 1:28.3.
In the stretch, Nasty Secret didn’t appear to be an easy mare to chase down, but O’Mara never let CJ’s Super Secret give up, cutting through horses along the inside and rallying up just in time to win by one-half length over the heavily favored Nasty Secret. Cuda Boy, the other half of the Eash entry with Jay Cross driving, rounded out the trifecta.
CJ’s Super Secret is owned by Jerry Foulk and Connie Armstrong of Delaware, Ohio. Foulk also serves as the trainer. The 4-year-old daughter of CJ’s Secret earned her first career win in a time of 1:59.1. She also more than doubled her career earnings to more than $17,000 in the effort. (Hoosier Park)
