Pennsylvania Sire Stakes champion Classic Lane led wire to wire to win the $82,830 Buckette for 3-year-old filly trotters Wednesday afternoon at the Delaware, Ohio fairgrounds. Driven by David Miller, Classic Lane crossed the finish line a length in front of Charged Freight and Ray Paver in a national season's best 1:55.3.
Classic Lane set fractions of :28.2, :58 and 1:27.1 in the short five-filly field. Paver sent Charged Freight up first-over past the half and was able to drop back into the two hole around the final turn. Paver tipped Charged Freight back to the outside in the stretch but the bid was rebuffed by Classic Lane. Beat The Blue was third for John Campbell.
Trained by Pete Foley for the Hatfield Stables of Columbus, Ohio, Classic Lane is a daughter of Lindy Lane. The win was her eighth in 13 starts this year, increasing her career earnings to $218,577.
"She's just a pleasant surprise," said Foley in the winner's circle. "She's not an easy filly to be around, but all she wants to do is trot."
Foley added Classic Lane is now headed to The Red Mile for an Oct. 3 start in the Kentucky Filly Futurity.
