Fool's Goal surpassed the $3 million mark in career earnings Monday night, capturing the first $60,000 division of the opening round of the Classic Series at Dover Downs. The 10-year-old trotter is the 12th all-time to reach that level in winnings for owners Bruce McEleven and Ron Allen and trainer Jim Doherty.

Driven by John Campbell, Fool's Goal rebuffed the first-over bid by Sand Vic and then the three-wide charge down the stretch of Elegant Man to earn the 1:53.4 decision, his 34th victory in 110 career starts. Hunt M Down (Wally Hennessey) found room late up the inside to snag runner-up honors, with Elegant Man (Cat Manzi) settling for third.

Chucaro Ahijuna closed with a furious stretch rally to win the second Trotting Classic split in 1:54.1 for driver Kevin Wallis, trainer Paul Bernardo and owner Berry Stables. The Argentinean-bred 8 year old earlier this year won the $80,000 Mack Lobell final at Pompano Park.

In the first of two $60,000 Classic Oaks divisions, Sunday Yankee led wire to wire with John Campbell in the sulky to win in 1:56.4. The 5-year-old mare reached the half in :59.1 and then came home in :57.3 to hold off the late bid up the inside by Celebrity Demi (Pat Berry) and the outside charge by Bliss (David Miller), who finished second and third, respectively.

The second division went to the heavy favorite Mystical Sunshine in 1:54.3. Clearing to the lead down the backstretch, Ron Pierce directed the 4-year-old mare to her first win of the year in two starts. Ecstatic (Miller) came up the inside and finished second despite going offstride at the wire. Lisa's Laser (Doug Snyder) was used early for the lead and then came back with a stretch rally to finish third.

Trained by Chris Ryder, Mystical Sunshine is owned by Alvin Jacobson and Sidney Korn.
