The resurrected Clayton Delaney won the $13,000 Delaware Trot at Dover Downs on Thursday, while Mike Cole and Jim Morand won three races. Cole again pinch-hit for regular driver Allan Davis and drove veteran trotter Clayton Delaney from off the pace to an impressive 1:57.4 victory in the feature race. CC's Glide-On-By (Joe Columbo) picked up second money with Sandys Attitude (Jim Morand) the early leader holding on for third. Clayton Delaney was bred by Wil Kirkwood of Townsend, Del., from his stallion Oak Grove Star. During his 2 -and 3-year-old seasons, Clayton Delaney was a top performer in the Delaware Standardbred Owners Association championship series. Following his 3-year-old campaign, the trotter developed several physical problems and raced only sparsely until this season. Davis of Smyrna and trainer Andrew Fulton of Harrington, Del., claimed the now 9 year old and the gelding responded and now has won eight races this season. He has been in the money 16 of 32 starts, winning $74,935 this year. This Sunday, there are four $110,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) finals for 2 year olds. On Monday, 18 stand-out sophomore colts lineup in two $35,287 Matron Stakes eliminations, the highlight of a powerful 15-race card. (Dover Downs)
