Clear Character upsets at The Meadows in 1:52.3

Clear Character pounced on the leaders in the Lightning Lane and pulled off a 28-1 shocker in Friday’s $22,500 Filly & Mare Not Listed Preferred/Preferred Handicap Pace at The Meadows.

Up in class to take on the track’s distaff elite, Clear Character got an aggressive steer from Eric Ledford, who rushed her to the pocket from post 6. While the first-over Winning It tried to wrest the lead from Cams Van Go, Clear Character waited patiently before brushing inside to score in 1:52.3. Cams Van Go saved place, a neck back, with Crossthreaded a rallying third.

Andy Rickert trains Clear Character, an 8-year-old daughter of Shady Character-Eglise Hanover who extended her career bankroll to $243,303, for Mark Jakubik and Greg Alexander.
