The colt Clerk Magistrate and filly Lantern Kronos made up for their bad luck in the Hambletonian and Oaks by winning American National events at Balmoral Park Saturday night.

Regular driver Trevor Ritchie sent Clerk Magistrate to the lead just past the first quarter (:27.4) as David Miller, driving Pine After Pine, yielded quickly. Clerk Magistrate reached the halfway mark in :55.4 and the three quarters in 1:24.4 before hitting the wire in 1:53.2. He was a clear length in front of runner-up Gallantly, who turned in a strong stretch rally for driver Mike Lachance and trainer Ron Gurfein. Pine After Pine held for third.

Per Henriksen trains Clerk Magistrate. The Andover Hall colt earned a new lifetime mark with the American National score.

Lantern Kronos, driven by her trainer, Jimmy Takter, patiently stalked the pacesetters and won in 1:54.4.

Prada Hall set the tempo, trotting to panels in :27.4 and :56.4 while Takter waited to slip into a developing out tier. Lantern Kronos raced second-over behind Along The Way, then was tipped to the outside at the top of the lane and gradually wore down Prada Hall, with Takter never needing the whip.

Prada Hall held on for second and Princhessndiamonds, who started from the rail and enjoyed a two-hole trip, took third.
