Co Ed Desire sharp in KYSS victory

Two year olds were back in the spotlight on Monday night at the Red Mile, as the track hosted eight divisions of the second leg of the Kentucky Sire Stakes, and the most fantastic freshman performance of the evening may have come in race two of the 20-race card as Co Ed Desire and driver Mike Lachance found their way to the winners circle with a sparkling 1:52.1 effort to remain undefeated in four career starts.

Lachance had his filly out and moving from third just past the quarter to take command before the half that was reached in :55.3, and the daughter of Real Desire never looked back for trainer Fred Grant and owner Scott Woogen of Mechanicsville, Va. The filly has improved her lifetime mark with each and every victory in her brief career, and increased her lifetime earnings with Monday night�s victory to $30,000.

One of Co Ed Desire�s main competitors for the upcoming $300,000 final will come in the form of Shanghai Lil, who took the other division for 2-year old filly pacers in 1:52.2. Shanghai Lil is a Jenna�s Beach Boy filly out of the Artsplace mare, Wonderbolt, she also being the dam of Devilfish.

Shanghai Lil was driven by Dave Palone and trained by Pete Foley for the All Star Racing Inc. of Towaco, N.J. Palone had his charge perfectly positioned second-over as the field turned for home, and tipped three wide off cover to unleash a :27.2 last quarter to score the victory by a half length over Warrawee Kay and Mike Lachance.

Racing will resume at The Red Mile on Thursday night with a post time of 6:30 p.m. for the 18-race card. Three-year old Kentucky-sired horses will be in action for the second leg throughout the card. (Red Mile)
