Cohen donates breeding

January 25, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Marsha Cohen, one of the owners of Trotting Triple Crown winner Glidemaster has donated a lifetime breeding to the Standardbred Retirement Foundation.

“Racing Glidemaster was really like a dream come true for myself and my partners,” said Cohen. “Standardbreds have been a big part of my life for so long that I am thrilled to have something significant to give back.”
Longtime supporters of the Standardbred Retirement Foundation, Cohen and her husband veterinarian Dr. Robert Fox, said the gift of a lifetime breeding was an easy choice.

“The Foundation has a vitally important, unique mission; lifetime care of its horses. Their commitment is for life and ours is, too. I only wish more stallions owners and farms would support the Foundation with lifetime breedings. These horses give us all so much, if we don't help them, who will? There was never a question that we would do this.”

“This wonderful gift comes at a critical time for the Foundation,” said president Paula Campbell. “We’re taking in and supporting more horses than ever before, with no consistent source of funding. Right now, we have 70 unadoptable horses that we’ll support for life. I hate to think what would have happened to them if SRF was not here to take them. This gift of a lifetime breeding is a great way to help us year after year, it's something we can count on. We’re very grateful.”

Cohen owns the son of Yankee Glide in partnership with Robert Burgess, Karin Olsson-Burgess and Brittany Farms. Glidemaster was trained by Blair Burgess and was driven primarily by John Campbell. Glidemaster retired earlier this season with career earnings of $1,968,023 and a mark of 1:51.1. His career at stud is overseen by Brittany Stallion Management. He stands at Walnridge Farm of Pennsylvania for a fee of $15,000.

The Standardbred Retirement Foundation will auction the 2007 Glidemaster breeding as well as 2007 breedings to Dragon Again and SJ’s Caviar from noon on February 5th through noon on February 9th. There may be additional stallions added to the auction. For more information check the SRF website at www.adoptahorse.org or call. There are also 50 other breedings available for sale beginning January 29th. Contact SRF at 732-462-8773. (SRF)
