Collins big at Colonial

Trainer-driver Dean Collins drove four winners, including three straight, on a sloppy Tuesday night at Colonial Downs. Collins scored his first win on Tuesday with Stately’s Hoss in race two. Collins sent the 3-year-old The Panderosa colt to the lead near the end of the backstretch and Stately’s Hoss rolled to a measured length victory in 1:52.3. Collins also trains Stately’s Hoss for Read Racing.

The early pick three continued with Double Tax Jack in race three. Collins piloted Double Tax Jack to a dominant 4 ˝-length victory for owner-trainer Basil Sapienza.

Collins scored his third straight victory in race four with Firm Decision, who rolled to an easy seven-length victory in 1:52.3 as the 9-5 favorite. The all-Dean Collins early pick three returned $37.20. Collins also trains Firm Decision for Mona Almond and Wallace Collins.

Collins completed his big night with Mrs Wiz in the finale. Mrs Wiz sat a perfect pocket trip and proved best in the stretch to prevail by three-quarters of a length. Nevin Gilbert trains and co-owns Mrs Wiz with Janet Bennett.--Kyle Fitzgerald for Colonial Downs
