Colonial Downs has closed one of its off-track betting operations. According to reports, the facility closed on Sunday. Track president Ian Stewart told the Daily Racing Form that the lease at Military Highway was going to expire in a year and a half, contributing to the decision to close the facility. Colonial Downs' fall harness meet closed last Wednesday. The track reported a 12 percent drop in attendance and a seven percent decline in money wagered during the 34-day meet.
Colonial Downs is owned by Colorado-based Jacobs Entertainment Inc. The company said it lost $902,000 in the three months that ended Sept. 30, an improvement compared with a loss of $1.1 million in the year-earlier period.
