Colonial feature gives in to temptation

Robert Cooper Stables Temptation rebounded from his first loss at Colonial Downs with a late-rallying victory over Megabucks N in a $10,000 winners-over handicap Sunday afternoon at the one-turn mile.

Temptation started the Colonial meet with four straight gate-to-wire scores but tired late to lose to Megabucks N last week after setting a blistering pace.

Driver Chris Page changed tactics Sunday, taking Temptation back to fifth early as Jacob’s Western seized the early lead after a brief duel with Megabucks N, who tucked into a pocket trip in second. Jacob’s Western cut sensible early fractions of :26 and :54.3 as the field raced single file into the turn.

Jacob’s Western continued to lead Megabucks N as Temptation made a first-over move on the turn, reaching fourth while tipping three wide at the five-sixteenths pole. Temptation closed strongly on the outside as Megabucks N dropped back while trapped behind horses in upper stretch.

Jacob’s Western tired late as Temptation surged by at the eighth pole.  Megabucks N rallied between horses to give Temptation a challenge in deep stretch but Temptation finished strongest to prevail by a half length. Bettor Watch Him closed for third.

Temptation paced the mile in 1:51.3 to improve his record to 22 wins from 63 lifetime starts. The 4-year-old Dragon Again gelding is now five for six since joining the Manley Brown Jr. barn. (Colonial Downs)
