Colt suffers fracture

The news that changed the complexion of the Berry's Creek final race was a pastern injury to Jenna's Choice, which will sideline him for the remainder of the year according to Tammy Silva, who works in partnership with her husband, trainer Mark Silva.

"Jenna's Choice is out of the Berry's Creek Final," Tammy Silva said on Tuesday morning. "I knew after the race Saturday night (the Berry's Creek Prep, which Jenna's Choice won) that he wasn't right. We had him x-rayed on Sunday, and he has a stress fracture of the pastern, right leg behind. It is not career threatening or anything like that. He most likely won't need surgery. He'll be rested in the stall for 30 days and then turned out.

"Dr. (Rick) Balmer told us he'd be back by the end of the year," Silva said. "We were going to quit with him anyway after the Berry's Creek final. He wasn't eligible to anything, and he's such a growthy colt. He's had a lot of growth spurts here and there. He's filled out quite a bit in the past two months. I'm excited at the prospect of him coming back, healthy and more mature. He is going to be an awesome 4 year old next year."
