Columbia County wins Battle of Saratoga final

Return Home
April 03, 2011 | Print View

The Battle of Saratoga #3 series for trotters wrapped up on Sunday afternoon at Saratoga Casino and Raceway and the winner had some similarities to the Saturday victors in the Battle of Saratoga #1 and #2 series.

Columbia County (Sierra Kosmos) went undefeated in his two legs of the $4,500 per division series for claming trotters and would look to complete the hat trick on Sunday with driver Stephane Bouchard in to drive. Saturday’s series finals saw two horses complete sweeps, prevailing in the final after going three-for-three in the series’ legs.

Both Allamerican Dice and Cardine Hanover scored on Saturday as odds-on favorites but on Sunday, Columbia County would cut the mile in the $15,000 final with the race’s favorite Docdor Reece (Pegasus Spur) getting the pocket trip right behind.

Columbia County, a Frank Calcagni trainee, held strong and drew away in the stretch to record the 1:59.4 win while Docdor Reece (Dan Cappello, Jr.) came up second best. CJ’s Victory (Jay Randall), who hit the board in all three legs of the series including a leg three victory, finished third. (Saratoga)
