Former Balmoral Park race secretary Connie Hochstetler has received an undisclosed monetary award as a result of a multi-count complaint for defamation after she was accused of manipulating post position draws to benefit her husband, Homer Hochstetler. Connie Hochstetler had filed the complaint against the Illinois Harness Horseman's Association (IHHA), its executive director, the members of its board of directors, and Thomas Wendt.
According to a release issued by her attorney, Richard Balog, "In May of 2007, the parties settled the litigation pending between them; Mrs. Hochstetler received an undisclosed monetary award. In addition, the parties have authorized the release of the following statement:
"The Illinois Racing Board has not found any wrongdoing on the part of Connie Hochstetler. The IHHA, its board of directors, and Thomas Wendt have settled Ms. Hochstetler's libel and slander suit against them. The defendants sincerely regret any harm caused to Ms. Hochstetler."
