Contributions growing from Yonkers to aid Lebanon fire fund

Driver Greg Grismore told harnessracing.com Wednesday afternoon that fundraising efforts at Yonkers Raceway to benefit the victims of last weekend’s barn fire at Lebanon Raceway in Ohio is off to a fast start and he hopes that the eventual financial contribution from horsemen racing at the New York racetrack will be substantial.

Grismore, who was one of Ohio’s leading drivers before recently moving his base of operations to Yonkers, spearheaded the effort. Grismore said that he was able to gather many drivers together prior to the Monday night card, and that the drivers each pledged to contribute $500 to the fund to help the connections of the 45 horses and two caretakers who were killed in the Dec. 5 blaze.

“We’ve had a good response,” said Grismore. “The majority of the main drivers have all agreed to donate $500 apiece, and we’re trying to get as many trainers and owners to donate. We’re taking donations through the end of the week, total it up, and send it off to them. We should have a pretty good check to present them by the end of the week.”

Grismore said that any persons at Yonkers who wishes to donate should see the Standardbred Owners Association of New York representative John Brennan in the Yonkers paddock.
