With Macho Lindy and Lets Get Serious both scratched, a select field of six went to post in the Green Speed, Monday's featured $35,000 Open Handicap Trot at Harrah's Chester Casino and Racetrack. With Bet to Win carving out vicious fractions, LT's Best ($15.20) was able to circle the field and close with authority, drawing clear late for a 1:53.3 victory.
Last of the sextet through a half of :55.2, trainer-driver Vince Copeland tipped the the 6-year-old Davanti gelding to the outside up the backstretch before accelerating on the far turn. Bet to Win (David Miller) controlled a gruelling tempo throughout, reaching three-quarters in 1:24.2 under virtually no pressure. With pocket-sitter Sergeant York (Eric Goodell) breaking stride at the head of the stretch, LT's Best found himself in prime striking position, kicking away by three from Bet to Win, with Joey the Jet JT (Ron Pierce) finishing third.
Thomas Barrett owns LT's Best, who recorded his 21st career win with the lifetime-best performance. (Harrah's Chester)
