Titan Cup runner-up Corleone Kosmos, collected his fourth win in the last five starts with a 1:51.2 triumph in the $300,000 Nat Ray final Saturday at the Meadowlands. Guided by John Campbell for trainer Ross Croghan, the S J’s Photo five year old knocked a fifth of a second off his lifetime best in the victory. Majestic Son, starting from post nine, was forwardly placed by Trevor Ritchie, reaching the lead after a :26.4 first panel. Campbell, in post six, raced three-wide into the first turn with Corleone Kosmos before leading the first-over flow to the :55 half. As the field reached the three-quarter pole Jaded broke stride following the leader, allowing Corleone Kosmos to inherit the pocket seat. Three-quarters of a length back at the top of the stretch, Corleone Kosmos passed a fading Majectic Son and held off Equinox Bi and Mike LaChance by three parts of a length. San Remo Kosmos and Tim Tetrick were third. Majectic Sun, tabbed the favorite, finished seventh. Owned by Arthur Rudolph, Rudolph Stables Inc. and Bernard Owen, Corleone Kosmos earned his fifth win in 10 starts. The gelding has won 12 of 30 lifetime starts, bankrolling just over $540,000.
