Corlewon wins final

Corlewon combined a hard-earned pocket trip with a swift final quarter to take the $14,500 final of the Danny Lad Trotting Series at The Meadows in a lifetime-best 1:56.2.



Driven by trainer Charlie Norris, the 4-year-old Corleone gelding was parked to nearly the half before tucking in behind Four Starzzzz Hall (Dave Palone), who was part of the favored John Sokol-trained three-horse entry. The two horses pulled away from the field in the stretch after Madison River (Dick Stillings) made a break.



Corlewon roared home in :28.2 to win by a length over Four Starzzzz Hall. BWT Evertime (Tony Hall) filled the trifecta at 26-1.



Owned by Leonard Buckner, Rebecca Ewing and Jeanne Stewart, Corlewon has a 2006 record of 9-4-3-0. He had twice been second-best to Four Starzzzz Hall in previous legs of the series. The win also avenged a front-end break at the three-quarters in last week's leg.
