Costa Rica jogged to a 1:57.1 victory in a $35,800 New Jersey Sire Stakes at Freehold Raceway Thursday afternoon.

With regular driver Ron Pierce in the sulky, Costa Rica left the gate strongly at the start and quickly took the lead. Boinga, a Hambletonian Oaks elimination winner, also left strongly from post eight, but settled third at the pylons. Costa Rica cruised through splits of :28.3, :59 and 1:28 before pulling away for an easy win.

Jimmy Takter trains Costa Rica, who has now won three of eight starts this season. Last year she won 10 of 16 starts and earned $970,126.

The Takter-trained Jettalady finished second, sitting the pocket the entire mile, while Boinga held on for third.
