Harness racing fans--and sports fans in New York and New Jersey--have seen it happen. Major league sports teams make the best deal they can with a "stadium" landlord, even if it requires moving the New York team to New Jersey, as has happened in the case of the NFL Jets and Giants, who both play in New Jersey at the Meadowlands Sports Complex.
So William Shanklin, a longtime racing and gaming analyst, wonders why Churchill Downs couldn't consider moving its headquarters and signature race--the Kentucky Derby--to Indiana, where expanded gaming at racetracks has been implemented. With Kentucky's legislative body seemingly indifferent to an industry many have called one of the state's most important, his idea makes for interesting reading.
