Conway Court, a 17-1 longshot, survived a tough outside trip to get up and win the featured $22,000 Open Handicap Trot at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs on Tuesday afternoon. Conway Court left from the far outside post in a field of eight and sat back while Rose Run Flash set early fractions of :27.1 and :57. Driver Dan Dube sent Conway Court to the outside at the three-eighths mark and finally wrestled the lead away from Rose Run Flash at the three-quarters, which was reached in 1:25.3. In the stretch, Conway Court held strong despite a contingent of closers coming up fast. He won by a length over Grain Of Truth, while BJ’s Chinook, the favorite and defending Trotter of the Year at Pocono, settled for third in his 2008 debut at the track. Conway Court’s winning time of 1:54.2 was the fastest of the meet for trotters and just a fifth of a second off the track record for 4-year-old trotting stallions, set by Armbro Barrister in 2005. The stallion, owned by Paolo Rosanelli and John Siena of Middletown, N.Y., and trained by Larry Remmen, won for the first time this year and the eighth time in his career. Conway Court was sired by Conway Hall and now has earned over $271,000 lifetime. (Pocono)
