Aboard Cowboys Like Us, driver Ann Karin Larsen was victorious in the $15,000 Mildred William Driving Series race Friday night at the Meadowlands. Larsen and Cowboys Like Us sat third most of the way before tipping out in the stretch and trotting off to a three-quarter-length win over Jay A Novak and Marie Auger in 1:58. Joe The Banker, with Leah Vandevort in the sulky, was third. Trained by Per Henriksen, Cowboys Like Us recorded his fourth win in 12 starts this season and has earnings in excess of $100,000 lifetime. The women drivers who competed in the Mildred Williams Driving Series Trot donated their earnings from the race to Children's Miracle Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for children's hospitals across North America. Now in its second year, the Mildred Williams Driving Series creates racing opportunities for female drivers in harness racing while raising money for charity. Named for 90-year-old Mildred Williams, one of the sport's first successful female drivers, it has expanded to include 37 venues across North America that host races for the series. (Meadowlands)
