Cowboy Terrier, a son of Somebeachsomewhere out of the Western Hanover mare Wild West Show bred and owned by Ray Schnittker and Charles Iannazzo, became the fastest freshman of 2012 Saturday morning at the Meadowlands with a 1:53.1 victory in one of 18 baby races.
With Schnittker driving, Cowboy Terrier romped home a seven-length winner in his career debut.
Another big effort was posted by the Tim Tetrick-driven, Linda Toscano-trained Doctor Butch, who was an 8 1/4-length winner in 1:54.4. Owned by Ken Jacobs, it was the second start for the son of Art Major out of the Jenna's Beach Boy mare Classical Yankee, following a fifth-place finish June 9 at the Big M.
The Tetrick-Toscano-Jacobs trio also scored with Aria J, a daughter of Art Major out of the Jenna's Beach Boy mare Misty Flirts. Making her second start, Aria J was an easy 9 3/4-length winner in 1:56.3. The threesome also had a victory with Deny Deny Deny, a son of Art Major-Fool For You, who is now two-for-two in his young career following a 1:55.4 effort. Tetrick and and Toscano also teamed up for a victory with Swift As A Shadow, a son of Bettor's Delight out of the Albert Albert mare Flibbbertigibbet, who won in 1:57.1. Winbak Farms bred and owns Swift As A Shadow.
Schnittker also had baby-race scores with Royal Assets (1:59.4), a daughter of Donato Hanover out of the Muscles Yankee mare Habit's Lady. It was the second straight win for Royal Assets, who posted a 2:00.1 victory in her June 9 debut at the Meadowlands.
After having gait problems in his debut June 9, Caveat Emptor remained on his best behavior Saturday for Schnittker as the son of Deweycheatumnhowe-Venus Hall posted a 5 1/2-length win in 2:00.2.
Driver John Campbell and trainer Robin Schadt teamed up for a pair of victories, including a 1:55.1 win by Odds On Equuleus, who was three-quarters of a length better than Bigrisk, the $450,000 yearling purchase last year by Frank Bellino. Odds On Equuleus, a son of Art Major out of Latte Lady, is a homebred of Odds On Racing. Odds On Racing's Odds On Alpha also scored a 4 1/4-length, 1:56.1 victory for his second straight victory. Odds On Alpha is a son of Somebeachsomewhere out of the Artsplace mare Odds On Arttoheart.
To Dream On, a daughter of Credit Winner out of the Conway Hall mare Satin Pillows, she a half sister to Pampered Princess and Was It A Dream, was the fastest trotter in the session, scoring a 1:57 victory for trainer-driver Jimmy Takter. Bred and owned by valley High Stable, To Dream On romped home by 10 lengths with a last quarter of :27 flat.
