Cracklin Jack racks up third straight win at Saratoga

After getting his picture taken just once in the first 16 starts of his career, Cracklin Jack has now visited the winner’s circle on three straight occasions after capturing the co-featured $5,500 non-winners trot at Saratoga Gaming and Raceway on Wednesday in a career-best 2:01.

Driven from post three by Barry Segel, Cracklin Jack settled comfortably along the pylons in fourth place as Pray For The Gray (Gates Brunet) marched on the lead through opening fractions of :28.4 and :59.1.

As the trotters made their second trip down the backstretch, CJ’s Victory (Kevin Gould) was the first to attack from the outside, providing cover for Cracklin Jack as that pair trotted by a tiring Pray For The Gray through a three-quarter split in 1:30.

CJ’s Victory entered the lane with a one-length lead, but was quickly engaged by a determined Cracklin Jack, who rolled off cover in mid-stretch and got up in the shadow of the wire to prevail by a head.

Cracklin Jack returned $17.60, $4.90, and $2.70 for the victory. CJ’s Victory brought in $2.30 and $2.10 for second, while Janny’s Uncle Paul (Scott Mongeon) paid $4.80 for third.

Owned by Paul O’Neil, Brian Joch, and Glenn Schnackenburg, and trained by Timothy Dickie, Cracklin Jack is a four-time winner from 13 seasonal starts. (Saratoga)
