Bob Black of the Red Barn Stable, owners of Crawdad, reports their prized pacer is scheduled to return from a well-deserved breather and qualify on June 21 at the Meadowlands.
"He loved being turned out and was quite full of himself," Black said, "but now that he's back training, he's got his game face back on. We miss coming out there to the Meadowlands because it was so much fun bringing people to see him race. I thought he'd only miss about three weeks, but Erv (trainer Erv Miller) told us he should take a little longer. He has no issues whatsoever. Hopefully, he'll come back and race just as good. He's probably going in a couple of Opens just to see if he can handle that level. He's not eligible to the Haughton." A fan favorite, Crawdad has been one of the top performers of the 2007 Meadowlands meet, winning nine of 13 starts and $180,150 with Andy Miller driving. Known for his signature late rally, the 4 year old by Art's Conquest showed his versatility in winning the Four Leaf Clover final on the front end in 1:50. He scared off most of the competition in the Fox Sports Net Series and completed a sweep of the series with a lifetime best 1:49.4 in the April 19 final. Thoroughbred Global Trifecta
This Sunday, racing fans on four continents will have the unique opportunity of betting into a single trifecta pool in a single race, the Prix de Diane simulcast from Chantilly Racecourse in France.
The Meadowlands will join other United States sites, as well as those from Brazil, France, Germany, Great Britain, Monaco, Spain, South Africa and Switzerland, in offering the first Global Trifecta Wager. The wager offers a large potential pool as bettors around the world try for the winning combination. The Global Trifecta will be offered on a single race Sunday morning, the Prix de Diane, one of France’s most prestigious Thoroughbred races. Only trifecta wagering will be offered on the race; the minimum wager is $1. Meadowlands gates will open at 10 a.m. The Prix de Diane is slated to go to post at 10:30 a.m. Advance wagering will be offered on Saturday, June 9. Bettors should ask for the “Global Trifecta” at any mutuel window or look for the designated tab on self-bet machines. This marks the first time in racing history that tote companies from around the world will offer their customers the chance to bet on a single race in a single, global pool. (Meadowlands)
