CR Dream Catcher scores

CR Dream Catcher caught a dream trip and trotted to a three-quarter-length victory in the $89,400 Horse & Groom final Sunday afternoon at the Meadowlands. The 5-year-old gelded son of Royal Troubador caught Wildfire Bo in the final 50 yards, crossing the finish line in 1:56 over a track rated good after daylong showers. Lhasa Muscles was third.

CR Dream Catcher, driven by Jeff Gregory and trained by his owner, Thomas O. Lail, extended his winning streak to three and completed a sweep of his Horse & Groom starts. This was his first stakes victory.

"He's getting real sharp, especially the last two to three weeks," said Gregory. "We got to educate him real carefully [last year] at Freehold. He's always finished his miles good. The last couple of weeks I was trying to stretch him out."

Gregory fired CR Dream Catcher out of the 10-hole and had the lead just past the first quarter before releasing Miss Fairfax and taking the two-hole tuck. In the stretch he found racing room along the pylons before edging past the outside of Wildfire Bo near the wire.

"I didn't think there was a chance to win if we took him off the gate," Gregory noted. "We were just hoping to get near the front somewhere and get some sort of a good trip."

CR Dream Catcher, who has three wins and three thirds in eight starts this year, improved his career record to 12 wins, three seconds and eighth thirds in 30 tries. The $3,000 yearling purchase has banked $123,142 lifetime.--the Meadowlands
