Crown supplements

October 12, 2004 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Quik Pulse Mindale, the fastest sophomore pacing colt of 2004 and two sire stakes winning fillies--L Dee's Val and Invitro--have been supplemented-- at a price of $62,500 -- to the Breeders Crown 3-year-old races, to be contested on Saturday, Oct. 23, at Woodbine.

Quik Pulse Mindale, the fastest 3-year-old pacer of 2004 and a world champion with a record of 1:48, was supplemented by owner Lloyd Arnold after suffering just his second defeat of the year in the Tattersalls at Lexington, Ky. this past Saturday. The son of three time Breeders Crown Final winner Jenna's Beach Boy has 11 wins in 13 starts and has won $435,131 this year. Trained by Mike Arnold and driven by Tony Morgan, Quik Pulse Mindale is still in the forefront for divisional honors.

Despite Breeders Crown-eligible Rainbow Blue's year long dominance in her division, the connections of both L Dee's Val and Invitro wrote checks for $62,500 to compete in the $500,000 (est.) 3-year-old filly pace. This Crown division has been won four times by supplemental entrants, including the 2001 Horse of the Year Bunny Lake, and subsequent divisional champions Popcorn Penny, Odies Fame, and Burning Point.

L Dee's Val, owned by Deanna Dumain, Valerie Kutil, and Frank Baldachino and trained by Mark Capone, is a winner of seven of nine starts and $212,500 this year. She has not lost a race since she finished third in the Fan Hanover Final on August 28, behind Rainbow Blue and Kikikatie. Her last five victories include two legs of the New Jersey Sire Stakes and the $75,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Final, and a pair of late-closing races at Lexington's Red Mile.

Owners Gord Irwin and Murray Ross of Ontario also went to the well and supplemented their regional star, Invitro. The daughter of the 1991 Breeders Crown winner Camluck set a track and stakes record when she won a C$130,000 Ontario Sire Stakes Gold Series Final this past Saturday, which pushed her 2004 earnings to $526,746. She has recorded 11 wins in 16 starts this year.

Supplemental entries are not permitted for 2 year olds. Regular entries for eligible 3-year-old trotters and pacers will be due, not later than 10:30 a.m., (EDT), on Tuesday, Oct. 12, in the Woodbine Race Office. Eliminations, if needed, for the 3-year-olds will be raced on Saturday, Oct. 16, and elimination winners may pick their post position for the finals.

The $4.2 million (est.) divisional finals for 2- and 3-year-old trotters and pacers will be raced on Saturday, Oct. 23, at Woodbine. Post time will be at 7:20 p.m.
