Currier & Ives on display

June 14, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

A collection of rare, original Currier & Ives lithographs will be on exhibition from Aug. 24 through Sept. 29 at the Richard M. Ross Art Museum on the Ohio Wesleyan University campus in historic downtown Delaware, OH.

The exhibit is on loan from the Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame in Goshen, NY and the display is entitled “The Grand Sport of Harness Racing” depicting scenes of the “first great American pastime.” The display will be open to the public during regular gallery hours, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Thursday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; and Sunday, 1-5 p.m.

A “Hall of Fame and Wall of Fame” reception will be held Tuesday evening, September 19th from 7-9 p.m. All Hall of Fame and Wall of Fame members will be honored at this reception.

The show of original lithographs features a selection from the Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame’s main collection. The more than 60 lithographs illustrate, in an artful way, harness racing’s important role in Amercan culture and history. Prints depicting great trotting horses, bucolic mid-19th century scenes, and comedic adventures convey a picturesque view of Americana prior to the advent and development of photography.

Other horse-related events scheduled during this time includes the 20th Annual All-Horse Parade on Sunday, September 10th, and the Delaware County Fair, September 16th-23. Memorbilia from the historic Little Brown Jug will also be on exhibit at the museum.
