Daley denied Indiana license

Four horses set to compete at Indiana Downs Friday, Aug. 18 and Saturday, Aug. 19 were scratched after trainer Noel Daley was denied a license by the Indiana Horse Racing Commission. Three of the entries were slated to start in Kentuckiana Stallion Management Stakes.

"Indiana has relatively high standards," said IHRC Executive Director Joe Gorajec. "I reviewed past rulings of Mr. Daley and based upon his background, decided that his license should be refused."

Daley entered Irene's Lucky Lady in the third of three Kentuckiana stakes for freshman filly trotters Friday night. Little Miss Dragon and Cantor's Daughter were set to start in the $220,350 final for two year old filly pacers Saturday evening. Allamerican Inca, poised to start in a $20,000 free-for-all pace, was also scratched.

"Let me just say that (owner) Adam Victor is not happy," Daley told harnessracing.com Saturday night. "They let us enter the horses, ship them there, have (Irene's Lucky Lady) in detention for eight hours, and then tell us we can't race them. It doesn't make sense. The race secretary even called me three times to ask me to bring Allamerican Inca to race in the free for all. Why didn't they just tell us about not getting a license beforehand instead of having us go through all this?"

The trainer was recently reinstated after serving a lengthy suspension. Gorajec said that the IHRC typically makes decisions independent of other jurisdictions. In the past, horsemen have been denied licensure in Indiana despite being in good standing in other states.

"It is not uncommon that an individual is licensed in other jurisdictions," Gorajec commented. "Every jurisdiction has certain standards for licensure."
