Dali, On The Brink take ISS 2CP divisions

The Duane Marfisi-trained horses Dali and On The Brink captured the first two $92,500 divisions of the International Stallion Stakes for 2-year-old colt pacers Friday afternoon at The Red Mile. Dali won the opening split in 1:51.1 while On The Brink scored in 1:52, with that division raced during a steady rain.

Luc Ouellette was scheduled to drive both but did not make the trip to Lexington, so Jody Jamieson got the call behind Dali and John Campbell was named to drive On The Brink.

Jamieson rallied Dali late for the victory over Sadler Hanover and Daley Deposit Only. It was the fourth win of the year in eight starts for the son of Real Artist who earlier this year was victorious in the $415,000 Woodrow Wilson final at the Meadwoalnds. Owned by Aaron and Isaac Waxman's Uncirculated Stable, Dali increased his earnings to more than $407,000 with the victory.

Campbell also came charging with On The Brink down the stretch to gain the victory. The odds-on choice Warning Zone had led through the first three quarters but tired late down the lane as he gave way to On The Brink as well as Racin Best and Dragoon K, who finished second and third, respectively.

Although there was no show wagering on the race, Warning Zone's off-the-board finish led to On The Brink returning $7.60 to win and $16.20 to place and Racin Best returning $61.60 to place.

Aaron Waxman, Alan Alber and Marfisi share ownership of On The Brink, a son of Dream Away. The win was a career best as well as his third of the year in 11 attempts.

Favored Riggins also led for much of the distance in the third $93,500 ISS division but he also tired in the stretch and faded to fifth. Blueridge Western came flying for driver Dave Palone and was able to put his nose on the wire just ahead of Genuwine and driver Andy Miller in 1:51.3.

The Ray Schnittker-driver Riggins led through fractions of :28, :54.3 and 1:23, with Share The Delight rallying first-over for driver Mike Lachance. As Riggins and Share The Delight battled side by side, Blueridge Western and Genuwine came closing fast and passed them both. Living It Up and driver Ron Pierce also made up late ground to finish third.

Mickey Burke trains the winner for owner George Leon. The win was the seventh of the year for the son of Allamerican Ingot--the well-traveled son of Allamerican Ingot as The Red Mile was the sixth different track he has started at in his last seven starts.
